Course Description

People credited with this course are able to provide immediate first aid assistance, basic life support (CPR), manage a foreign body airway obstruction, manage first aid for life-threatening bleeding, manage first aid for a person in shock, burns, or fractures, and assist when patients experience medical conditions.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Provide immediate bystander First Aid at work or home, with more emphasis on children and infants.
  • Provide Basic Life Support (CPR) for adult, child or infant with more ECE scenarios
  • Airway obstruction (Choking) adult, child or infants with more ECE scenarios
  • Demonstrate the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Assess and manage a collapsed child. (Trauma and medical)
  • Approach of an accident scene
  • Demonstrate and apply the primary survey assessment (DRSABCD algorithm).
  • Management of shock.
  • Manage trauma conditions – bleeding, burns, fractures, dislocations or sprains.
  • Manage medical condition – high fever, asthma, seizures or low sugar emergencies.

Entry Criteria

Numeracy and Literacy: To complete the assessments, all students must be able to write, speak, and understand basic English.

Students must be able to kneel on the floor to perform CPR functions. If you have students with physical limitations, please get in touch with us to discuss.​

Prerequisites for Unit 6401 – Unit 6402: Provide basic life support (Attained during the course before Unit 6401)
