Course Description

This webinar covers Regulation 4.5 of the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substance Regulations) 2017, which outlines the obligations you have to ensure your workers have the knowledge and practical experience to work safely around hazardous substances/chemicals. Firstly, employers must provide information, training, and instruction to every worker who uses, handles, manufactures, or stores hazardous substances.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Gain understanding of the Hazardous Substances Regulations, chemical classifications and signage.
  • Cover the use and need of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) under the Regulations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of what PPE and First aid are needed for chemical handling and injuries.
  • Discuss the safe handling, use and storage of hazardous substances.
  • Management of chemical spills.
  • Duties associated with notifiable accidents.
  • Understand hazardous properties and the adverse effects of hazardous substances.
  • Duties associated with the management of chemical risks, emergency plans and provision of first aid at work.
  • Reviewing some case studies and fines issued under the act.
