Course Description

This course is intended for individuals to minimise manual handling injuries by understanding the structure and function of the spine, recognising occupational risk factors for back injury, applying effective back care techniques, and implementing workplace control measures to minimise the risk of back injury.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the structure and function of the spine.
  • Identify the risk factors for occupational back injury.
  • Identify risk factors associated with workplace design, the work environment and work organisation in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Identify Individual factors that increase the risk of back injury in accordance with the occupational safety and health guidelines.
  • Identify back care techniques.
  • Identify workplace control measures to reduce the risk of back injury.

Entry Criteria

Numeracy and Literacy: Students must be able to write, speak, and understand basic English to complete the assessments.
