MOBILE ELEVATED WORK PLATFORMS TRAINING

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed that you understand the duties under the HSWA 2015, relevant standards and BPG for operating an MEWP- WORKSAFE NZ. You will perform a combination of practical exercises including machine checks and apply your knowledge to drive and operate a machine safely to perform a task. 

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the different types of MEWPs, their suitability for purpose

  • Identify and operate safety features

  • How to identify and report faults for the MEWP

  • Understand the legislative requirements in relation to the Approved Code of Practice for the use of MEWPs

  • Assess the worksite and prepare to use a MEWP

  • Carry out MEWP risk assessment and operations

  • How to shut down and safely and securely store the MEWP, in accordance with organisational requirements

23966:  Level 3 Credits 2 

Describe types of elevating work platforms (EWPs) and legislative requirements for their use 

23960:  Level 3 Credits 3 

Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a scissor lift 

23962:  Level 4 Credits 5 

Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a self propelled boom lift 

  

OPTIONAL UNIT STANDARD: 

23961:  Level 3 Credits 4 

Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a truck-mounted elevating work platform (EWP)

23963:  Level 3 Credits 4 

Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a trailer mounted (cherry-picker) EWP

23964:  Level 3 Credits 2 

Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a vertical lift/hoist

Open

Numeracy and Literacy: All students must have the ability to write, speak and understand basic English to complete the assessments.

Prerequisites for Unit standards 23960, 23961, 23962, 23963, 23964 - (Unit 23966, Describe types of elevating work platforms (EWPs) and legislative requirements for their use (Attained during the course before attempting other unit standards)
