Course Description

This course will ensure you understand the essential components of the permit-to-work system, especially the legal responsibility to authorise work to be carried out within your workplace permit-to-work system. We will discuss multiple types of permits and what should be in place to issue such permits to ensure a safe working environment.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Explain the permit types, PI roles and permit requirements for issuing a permit.
  • Demonstrate the preparation requirements for issuing a permit, including worksite preparation, hazard analysis and supervisory requirements on site.
  • Explain and demonstrate the implementation of control systems: Monitoring and compliance to work scope, deviations, cancellation and re-issue of work permits.
  • Explain procedures in terms of change of scope, newly introduced hazards and site emergencies under the permit system.
  • Explain and demonstrate the action to audit and close work permits.

Entry Criteria

Numeracy and Literacy: To complete the assessments, all students must be able to write, speak, and understand basic English.
