Duration

The course is our most advanced first aid course and is three (3) days long, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. It combines theoretical and practical sessions, and students are assessed continuously during the course. Upon successful completion, the certificate is valid for two years.

At our training centre, or if you would prefer, we can provide training at your workplace.

Course Description

This course is intended for those working in higher risk industries, such as surf life saving, rescue teams, ambulance, FENZ, coastguard, construction high risk and many more. People credited with this course are able to use advanced airway, breathing management and circulation techniques and /or devices that includes administration of medical oxygen, oropharyngeal airway devices for airway support, bag valve mask ventilation, medication administration, O2 saturation monitoring and using AED/defibrillation. Monitoring of vitals, safe moving of patients using stretchers, lifting devices and sheets. Conduct secondary surveys, history taking, documentation and patient handover.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Assess and manage the scene of an emergency situation.
  • Perform a primary survey to identify any life threats.
  • Perform a secondary survey.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of safe patient moving and lifting techniques without injury to self, patient or others.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of devices and/or techniques to manage patients in an emergency.
  • Monitor patients and provide information in an emergency.
  • Recognise signs of stress in self and apply appropriate strategies to mitigate effects.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of requirements relating to patient information and documenting events.

Entry Criteria

Prerequisites: Participants must have a current first aid certificate or refresher certificate at the time of assessment (US 6400 or US 23406) or can be completed on the first day of the course if required, and must have completed a pre-course assignment. The pre-course assignment will be emailed to you with the confirmation upon registration for this course.

Numeracy and Literacy: Students must be able to write, speak, and understand basic English to complete the assessments.

Students must be 16 years or older to attend this course.

Students must be able to kneel on the floor to perform CPR and advanced airway management, and be physically capable of assisting with a casualty lift. If you have students with physical limitations, please contact us to discuss.
