This course does not include NZQA unit standards, but refreshes on the units held.

Duration

One day, from 8 am to 4 pm, the course combines theoretical and practical sessions. Students are assessed continuously during the course. Certificate valid for 2 years upon successful completion

At our training centre, or if you would prefer, we can provide training at your workplace.

Course Description

People credited with this course can use medical oxygen, oropharyngeal airway devices for airway support, bag valve mask ventilation, medication administration, lifting devices, O2 saturation monitoring, AEDS, and defibrillators. They can also provide advanced basic life support and secondary surveys, stress management, and safe patient movement.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Assess and manage the scene of an emergency situation.
  • Perform a primary survey to identify any life threats.
  • Perform a secondary survey.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of safe patient moving and lifting techniques without injury to self, patient or others.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of devices and/or techniques to manage patients in an emergency.
  • Monitor patients and provide information in an emergency.
  • Recognise signs of stress in self and apply appropriate strategies to mitigate effects.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of requirements relating to patient information and documenting events.

Entry Criteria

Prerequisites: A current PHEC certification OR an expired full PHEC certification within three months of the expiry date.

Numeracy and Literacy: To complete the assessments, all students must be able to write, speak, and understand basic English.

Students must be 16 years or older to attend this course.

Students must be able to kneel on the floor to perform CPR and advanced airway management and be physically capable of assisting with a casualty lift. If you have students with physical limitations, please contact us to discuss.
