Course Description

  • People credited with this course can operate and drive a special-type vehicle on the road that isn’t a forklift and apply for a W, T or R endorsement on their driver’s licence.
  • W endorsement – vehicles that run on wheels that aren’t forklifts, such as passenger vehicles, tractors, fire engines, trade vehicles or vehicle recovery service vehicles.
  • T endorsement – vehicles that run on self-laying tracks.
  • R endorsement – vehicles that run on rollers.

  • Identify the types, legislative requirements, and safety considerations for a special-type wheeled vehicle.
  • Identify the types, legislative requirements, and safety considerations for a special-type roller vehicle.
  • Identify the types of special-type tracked vehicles, legislative requirements, and safety considerations.
  • Drive a special-type wheeled vehicle safely in a simulated road environment.
  • Drive a special-type roller vehicle safely in a simulated road environment.
  • Drive a special-type tracked vehicle safely in a simulated road environment.

Entry Criteria

Pre-requisite: Candidates must hold the correct class of driver’s license for the gross vehicle mass of the vehicle they are using in the assessment in accordance with Driver Licensing Legislation. A Class 1 full licence is required to apply for a ‘W’ endorsement. However, assessment can still be done with a Class 1 restricted licence or an overseas equivalent.

Numeracy and Literacy: Students must be able to write, speak, and understand basic English to complete the assessments.
